We attended one of Whole Foods Market™ Speaker Series events; this one titled “Consumer’s Conflict: The Cost of Fresh Picked Produce in the 21st Century.” The guest speaker was Barry Estabrook, author of Tomatoland – How Modern Industrial Agriculture Destroyed Our Most Alluring Fruit. In the end, there was too much Whole Foods and too little discussion of the real cost of fresh produce and what to do about it. And we paid $40 to hear it…

NOP, NOSB, NOC – Organic Meetings in Seattle

For the first time, the USDA’s National Organic Program (NOP) and the National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) are holding their semi-annual meetings in Seattle. These meetings are held in moving locations to allow as much public access as possible, and are open to the public for an insider’s view of the organic rule-making process.

Organicology – Past But Not Over

More than 500 people attended Organicology, held this year in Portland OR, and took part in a full day of intensives, 2 days of workshops and educational sessions, and a mini trade show with 66 exhibitors. There were three fascinating keynote speakers, nine outstanding meals prepared out of local and organic products, and even a potato tasting competition.
