“I don’t want to be forced to choose veggies. I do NOT like veggies or fruit!” Spoken just like a toddler – only in better English!
Weight Watchers – that venerable diet program that has been around forever (since 1963) – upset the apple cart with their new point system for establishing a daily diet plan. In the past, all you had to do was tote up the number of points assigned to each food item, stay within the daily and weekly limits, and you were good to go.
Points were pretty much determined by the number of calories – so if you wanted to forfeit 200 calories you could choose a cookie or 2 apples. Guess which one made the cut?
Now, under the new program, calories aren’t just calories. Points are determined by calories and a number of other nutritional criteria. And most fruits and vegetables are “free” on the chart while sugary deserts have suddenly gained points.
Darned hard to get people to eat good, healthy food even when it is “free.”
